The feather was fabricated using stainless steel plates to form the ‘vanes’ of the feather welded to a tapered stainless steel tube forming the ‘quill’.
The length of the feather is approximately 5.2m and mounted on a swivel mechanism to allow the feather to rotate with changing wind directions.
The focus was on creating the sculpture as light as possible with minimal visible connection between the tip of the feather and the supporting post while incorporating a swivel mechanism at the connection.
