The two existing structures had suffered varying degrees of earthquake related damage and structural repairs and strengthening consisted of the installation of new foundations, construction of reinforced concrete structural walls, FRP wrapping of existing concrete columns and beams, steel encasement of wall elements and enhancement of the roof bracing systems. The construction works were completed within a very tight programme to achieve the critical opening dates for the new hotel.
